Circelation pilot programme

Circelation was initiated by Chenine Bhathena and Leila Jancovich in 2000 in Sheffield.

This first stage pilot programme received support from Yorkshire Arts and the Barings Foundation. The second stage of the pilot project, in 2001, received support from Yorkshire Arts and the Gulbenkien Foundation.

In February 2002, Circelation was cited in the Arts Council of England Strategy Report on Circus in England as a notable professional development programme, complimenting the work of Circus Space (London) and Circomedia (Bristol). The report recommended support for initiatives which show:

• commitment to nurturing circus practice at every level

• commitment to expertise in the art form

• commitment to high profile strategic circus projects

• increased investment and prioritisation of circus arts
